Washington, D.C. – Saturday, February 4 marks the conclusion of National Catholic Schools Week, which featured events in Archdiocese of Washington schools highlighting the faith- and values-based, quality education they offer. The following statement should be attributed to Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington:
“Over the past few days our Church of Washington has highlighted the quality education of our more than 90 schools that serve the highly diverse communities in our archdiocese, including our National Blue Ribbon schools in Washington, D.C., Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties. We also promoted our D.C.-based Consortium Schools, which through the support of parents, the Archdiocese and unique federal funding, such as the Opportunity Scholarship Program, make a quality education accessible to all.
“This past week highlighted a crucial time for schools, educators and families looking to meet the needs of our young people, with enhanced educational opportunities and choices. I thank President Donald J. Trump for his supportive statements about Catholic Schools Week and school choice, and look forward to working with the administration, Congress and all policymakers in the months ahead as we focus on bringing more choices and greater opportunities to families here in the Archdiocese and across the country.”
